This program is designed to help us understand and protect the health of local waterways on the Gold Coast. Through water quality testing and waterbug sampling, we can gain an idea of how our creeks and river systems are tracking over time. This helps identify any changes or potential issues, such as pollution or habitat degradation.
Healthy waterways are essential for wildlife, ecosystems and communities. By collecting and analysing data, we can monitor the impact of environmental changes, urban development, and human activity. We can then provide this information to land managers and local councils, helping guide decisions that support a healthier environment.
Community engagement is incredibly valuable to this program. Volunteers help collect consistent, long-term data from many sites across the region – something that wouldn’t be possible without their support. By getting involved, you’re helping protect local waterways as well as building stronger community connections to the environment.
