Submitting Your Data

One person from your control session will be responsible for the submission of the event’s data to Watergum’s database. Please follow the steps below for data submission:

The ToadTrack data sheet is simple and easy to fill in and will help us enormously in our quest to advance cane toad management and protect native species.

Step 1: Enter the Survey Basics

1. Date: Begin by entering the date of your control session. This helps us keep accurate records for our study.
2. Group Name: Input the name of your group or organisation conducting the control session.

Step 2: Record Toad Details

1. Life Stage: Select “Toad Busting.”
2. Number of Toads Captured: Enter the total number of cane toads you collected during this session.

Step 3: Location Information

1. Suburb: Input “Pottsville” as the suburb*.
2. Comments: Add a note stating that this control session took place at our study site, Pottsville Environmental Park. This helps us track specific site data.

*If you are unable to travel to the survey site at Pottsville Environmental Park, you can still participate in the citizen science study by submitting data from your own suburb following the below steps.

Step 4: Citizen Science Study Confirmation

1. When asked if this record is part of the Tweed Citizen Science study, select “Yes.”
2. This will trigger additional questions about environmental variables related to your control session.

Step 5: Environmental Variables* To monitor the impact of weather and other factors on toad presence, collect the following data:

1. Temperature: Record the minimum and maximum temperature for the session.
2. Humidity: Note the humidity percentage.
3. Precipitation: Record the day’s rainfall in mm’s.
4. Wind: Document the wind speed (e.g., 5km/h).
5. Lunar Phase: Identify the moon phase during your control session (e.g., new moon, full moon).

*Tip: Use your mobile weather app or the BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) website to collect this information. Make sure the location is set to Pottsville Environmental Park for accurate data.

Step 6: Observations and Photos

1. Add any additional site observations, such as unusual environmental conditions, flora, or fauna you noticed during the session.
2. Upload any relevant photos you took at the site.

Step 7: Submit the Form Once all fields are completed, double-check your entries and submit the form.
