Watergum Community is partnering with Healthy Land & Water and Barung Landcare to improve and re-establish critical habitat for the endangered Southern Pink Underwing Moth (Phyllodes imperialis smithersi) on the Gold Coast.

Funded through the Australian Government’s Saving Native Species grant, the project will address key threats such as weed invasion and habitat degradation.

We will be working with seven landholders in the Gold Coast hinterland, restoring eight hectares of land and planting more than 2,000 native rainforest plants.

The project will implement strategic weed control, rainforest regeneration and targeted planting of the moth’s host vine (Carronia multisepalea) to:

  • protect important breeding sites
  • enhance habitat connectivity
  • improve long-term habitat quality for the species.
