Watergum is working in partnership with stakeholders and community members to develop an implementation plan for community groups and not for profit organisations to enter the Biodiversity Credits system.
This will provide invaluable feedback to the Australian Government in the process of building an accessible Nature Repair Market.
The Nature Repair Act 2023, effective from 15 December 2023, established a framework for the world’s first legislated, national, voluntary biodiversity market. The Nature Repair Market scheme is a Commonwealth initiative designed to increase investment in the environment and combat ecosystem decline and degradation.
Community groups, alongside corporate entities, farmers and First Nations organisations, are eligible to participate in the scheme. Community groups and not-for-profits play a major role in the Australian environmental space, but may lack the knowledge or resources to authentically implement these projects. Watergum is working in partnership with stakeholders and community members to develop an implementation plan, including a strategic plan, for environmental community groups to contribute and enter the Biodiversity Credits system and Nature Repair Market.
