Waterbug Sampling – Guanaba

May 18 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Waterbug Sampling – Guanaba

Learn how to assess the health of our waterways by sampling and collecting data on waterbug species.

You may not have noticed before, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs. Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not.

This activity is suitable for both children (age 5+) and adults.

You will learn how to collect waterbug samples correctly before collecting and identifying the different species.

The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways.

We sample waterbugs 4 times a year, come along to your local sampling session every three months to see how the biodiversity changes with the seasons.
