Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island

Seagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms, including turtles, dugongs and seahorses.

Globally, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast.

Watergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques.

Have fun, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. You can find it here: www.watergum.org/online-classroom/

It is essential that you bring:

• Enclosed shoes, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! THONGS AND SANDALS ARE NOT SUITABLE!

• Sun safe clothing, hat, sunglasses, sun cream and wind jacket

• Water and snacks

This program is hosted by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast.
