NaturallyGC Platypus Appreciation Day

March 8, 2020 at 9:30 am - 11:30 am

The platypus is an amazing semi-aquatic mammal that is endemic to Eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is primarily nocturnal, living in creeks and rivers from cold highlands areas to tropical rainforests. Unfortunately platypus numbers appear to be declining due to habitat disruption, water extraction, pollution of waterways and illegal
capture.

Learn more about the local Platypus population and what you can do to help with our Platypus Appreciation Day.

  • There will be free kids Platypus craft and a hands on waterbugs activity with Gold Coast Catchment Association.

  • Buy native plants from the Native Plants Gold Coast group.

  • Learn how you can help become a citizen scientist and monitor Platypus populations, water bugs and water quality across the Gold Coast

  • Visit the City’s Natural Areas Management display to see restoration works occuring around our waterways and how you can help get inolved.

  • Visit the City’s Catchment Management Unit stall to see how we manage water quality and issues in our catchments.

Supported by Division 9 Councillor Glenn Tozer and the City’s Catchment Management Unit
