NaturallyGC KIDS Native Stingless Bees

Did you know there are over 1600 different types of bees in Australia!
In these workshops Dr Toby Smith will introduce us to the amazing world of Australian native bees. Some of our native bees live in large colonies of thousands, living under the rule of single queen, and making and storing honey. But the lonely bees make up the majority of bees in Australia: solitary female bees that live all by themselves, and raise their offspring as single mums.
Toby will show us dozens of brilliant close up photos and diagrams of bees to help explain this great diversity, bee lifecycles and their nests, and their important role in pollination and food security. Throughout these workshops Toby encourages questions, and all the way through the presentations are interactive with the group of children. All explanations are simple, easy to understand, and delivered in a fun story telling fashion. Toby will also bring with him preserved bee specimens, and live stingless bee hives with viewing windows. If we’re lucky we may even get a glimpse of a queen!
Suitable for ages 5 and above. Please only register for the children attending.
