Scenic Rim

Christmas Storm Clean Up

Named after the devastating storm left behind by Cyclone Jasper during the Christmas period of 2023, this project aims to deliver critical disaster recovery works across natural areas of the Scenic Rim.

The project will engage local contractors in clean up and restorations work across 31 sites between June 2025 to June 2026. The work includes:

  • sediment and debris removal
  • ecological restoration work
  • habitat creation
  • waterway stabilisation
  • fence and rubbish rectification and removal.

Watergum Community will be on-ground clearing fire trails and access roads to the region. This will allow for the safe maintenance of natural areas for site users and easy access to core site areas for site managers. We will also be undertaking restoration efforts to encourage the return of native plants and animals, improving the local ecosystem’s resilience.  Healthy waterways and native vegetation act as buffers during extreme weather events, protecting reducing risk of future flooding in the area.

Watergum Community has been contracted by Scenic Rim Regional Council with assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
