Establishing a Disease Profile for Koalas

The Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is one of Australia’s most iconic animals, but they are under threat from disease, land use change and human impacts.

The Koala is listed as endangered in Queensland under Queensland’s Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Australian Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. This project will establish a comprehensive disease profile for Gold Coast Koala populations.

This project will establish a comprehensive Koala disease profile covering the entirety of the Gold Coast region. This initiative seeks to augment knowledge about the local Koala population health. This will in turn empower informed decision mkaing for effective management practices, including vaccine administration and medical intervention. At the strategic level, this project will enhance threat mitigation strategies.
