From dugongs to whales\, seagrass meadows to rocky reefs\, and of course our much-loved marine turtles\, our coastline is teeming with life worth protecting. \n \nAs we clean up the beach together\, you’ll learn about: \n\nThe different marine species found along our shores and reefs\nHow to spot and report sightings of these species\nThe important role of these habitats in supporting marine ecosystems\nWhy the Gold Coast is such an important nesting and feeding area for marine turtles\nHow to get involved and connect with organisations making a difference for our marine environment\n\n \nTo maximise our impact\, we also complete a Beach Clean audit and submit the data to the Tangaroa Blue Australian Marine Debris Initiative\, contributing to national efforts to reduce ocean pollution. \n \nThis event is the perfect opportunity to give back to nature\, expand your marine knowledge\, and take part in hands-on conservation. Our experienced guides and local frog expert will lead you along the forest trails\, sharing tips and tricks to help you spot our amazing amphibians in their natural habitat. \nThis event is ideal for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts looking to sharpen their senses. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of nature night! \n \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU REGISTER: \n\nThis event is designed for adults and families.\nFor ages 14 years and older with parent/guardian supervision.\nThis is an outdoor walk in a bushland environment with uneven surfaces and unsealed tracks. Participants must be physically able to be stand and walk through a park for up to 2.5 hours – moderate fitness required.\nYou must register and secure a ticket for all people attending. Spaces are limited.\nDetailed event information will be sent to the email address provided upon registering.\n\nINFORMATION FOR THE DAY OF THE EVENT: \n\nPlease arrive 15 minutes before the start of the event to check in.\nPlease wear fully enclosed shoes (gumboots preferred) and suitable clothes for cooler temperatures. They are a favourite visitor in gardens\, and it doesn’t matter where you are in the City of Logan or how big your outdoor space is\, you will surely have frogs lurking nearby. \nEach group will be provided with materials and guided through the assembly of a frog hotel to install in your garden. DESCRIPTION:Watergum community cane toad bust and research project kick-off.\n\n\nWe have partnered with the City of Gold Coast to bring cane toad control to the Gold Coast this season. \nCane toads in the Gold Coast cause declines in our native wildlife\, poison domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries. \nWe are working together to humanely and effectively control this pest species and create safe havens for biodiversity! \nJoin our Toad Bust and work together to control cane toads: \n?Saturday\, 15 November 2025⏰ 6:30pm?Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve on Casuarina Drive\, Elanora. Parking can be found Casuarina Drive. \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to: \n\nmeet some like-minded individuals\nlearn some new toad busting skills\nmake a difference for our environment\n\nThis bust is extra special because we’ll be launching our new research project ToadTrack on the Gold Coast. This research project will assess whether consistent Toad Busting efforts can impact Cane Toad populations over time and will run for 3 years. \n?How the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, followed by an introduction to our new research project and how YOU can get involved! \nWe will then split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit\, please bring it along on the night!
