SUMMARY:Waterbug Sampling - Cedar Creek
DESCRIPTION:Waterbug Sampling – Cedar Creek\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by sampling and collecting data on waterbug species. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs. Some of these waterbugs are extremely sensitive to pollution. When we sample water\, we test for the presence or absence of these waterbugs to let us know whether a waterway is healthy or not. \nThis activity is suitable for both children and adults of all ages. \nYou will learn how to collect waterbug samples correctly before collecting and identifying the different species. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up-to-date information about the health of our waterways. \n \nWhat to bring \n?Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without close-toe shoes due to safety concerns. \n?Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n?A towel \n?Lots of drinking water \n \nPlease make sure to register to secure your place and receive event updates. \n \nIf we have to cancel this event due to weather concerns\, attendees will be notified via email and mobile phone. \n \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org \nWebsite: www.watergum.org \n \nThis event is proudly supported by the City of Gold Coast\, Catchment and Citizen Science Grants Program.
