DESCRIPTION:Watergum Community Cane Toad Busting – Murwillumbah\n\n\nTweed Shire Council has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring cane toad control to the Tweed this season. \n \nCane toads in the Tweed cause declines in our native wildlife\, poison domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries. \n \nJoin our Community Toad Bust on Tuesay\, 14th January at 7.00pm to 9.00pm (AEDT) in Murwillumbah and work together to control cane toads! This is a great activity for the whole family. \nMeeting location: Knox Park\, Murwillumbah – meet in front of the main carpark off Wollumbin Street. \nCome along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! There will be prizes up for grabs for the top toad busters! \n \nHow the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, then we will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit\, please bring it along on the night! DESCRIPTION:Watergum has partnered with Byron Shire Council to bring to bring the Cane Toad Challenge to Byron this season!\n\n\nByron Shire Council has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring cane toad control to Byron this season. \n \nCane toads in Byron cause declines in our native wildlife\, posion domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries. \nWe are working together to humanely and effectively control this pest species\, and create safe havens for biodiversity! \n \nJoin our Community Toad Bust and Cane Toad Info Session at 5.30pm on Thursday the 16th of January 2025 at Waterlily Park\, Ocean Shores\, and work together to control cane toads! \n \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! How the event will run: \n5.30pm-6pm: Watergum staff will deliver an educational talk on cane toads including their impacts on domestic pets/native wildlife and what you can do to help! \n6pm-6.30pm: Watergum staff will run a brief cane toad tadpole trapping workshop. \n6.30pm-7pm: Break for dinner\, light food will be available to purchase on the night. \n7pm-8pm: It’s time for toad busting! We will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n8pm-8.30pm: Counting of toads and crowning our winning toad buster! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit\, please bring it along on the night! DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening adventure during the Great Cane Toad Bust as we team up to tackle those pesky cane toads!\n\n\nGet ready for a hands-on session where you’ll get the opportunity to play a part in reducing cane toad numbers and protecting our local biodiversity! Cane toads are unfortunately common across Logan – causing declines in native wildlife\, poisoning domestic pets\, and having negative impacts on our local ecosystems and agricultural industries. \nExperts from Watergum will guide you through how to identify cane toads at different stages of their lifecycle\, and ways to safely and humanely capture them. You’ll also learn all about the ecological impact of this pest species in your own backyard\, ways to toad proof your home\, and how to create habitat for native frogs and other wildlife. \nThis event is ideal for families\, frog and nature enthusiasts\, and anyone interested in working together to make a positive impact in their local area. \n \nThe Great Cane Toad Bust is Australia’s biggest toad bust! For one week\, from the 18-26 January\, we are challenging Australians to tadpole trap by day and toad bust by night. Want to join in 2025? Participants must be physically able to be stand and walk through a park for up to 2 hours.\nWe will euthanise and dispose of the toads humanely and responsibly after the event.\nYou must register and secure a ticket for all people attending.
