SUMMARY:Gold Coast Cane Toad Challenge - Community toad bust
DESCRIPTION:Watergum community cane toad bust and citizen science study kick-off.\n\n\nCity of Gold Coast has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring cane toad control to the Gold Coast this season. \n \nCane toads in the Gold Coast cause declines in our native wildlife\, posion domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries. \nWe are working together to humanely and effectively control this pest species\, and create safe havens for biodiversity! \n \nJoin our Toad Bust at 6:00pm on Thursday the 5 December 2024 at Schuster Park\, and work together to control cane toads! We’ll be meeting by the Schuster Park playground. \n \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! This bust is extra special because we’ll be launching our new Tweed citizen science project where you can help increase our understanding of cane toad control methods and inform future management strategies. \n \nHow the event will run: \n \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, followed by an introduction to our new citizen science study and how YOU can get involved! Then we will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit\, please bring it along on the night! DESCRIPTION:Watergum has partnered with Beaudesert Landcare and Scenic Rim Regional Council to deliver a cane toad tadpole trapping workshop.\n\n\nBeaudesert Landcare – Cane Toad Tadpole Trapping Workshop \nWatergum’s Cane Toad Tadpole Trapping is coming to the Scenic Rim! \nWatergum has partnered with Beaudesert Landcare and Scenic Rim Regional Council to deliver a hands-on cane toad tadpole trapping workshop this season.  \nBeaudesert Landcare have purchased a limited number of traps to lend out to interested participants for use on private properties and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to effectively use them. \n \nDid you know? Cane toads are toxic at every life stage and female cane toads can lay up to 35\,000 eggs at a time! This presents danger to our pets\, wildlife and agriculture. \nJoin us on 6th December at 5.30pm to learn how to identify cane toads\, reduce toad numbers\, toad-proof your water-bodies and get hands-on experience tadpole trapping.  \n \nEvent Details: \nDate: 6th December 2024 \nTime: 5.30pm – 8.30pm \nLocation: Biddaddaba private property\, please register to receive workshop address. \nOrder of activities: \n\nWatergum will provide a live demonstration of tadpole trapping with opportunities for participants to get involved.\nWhile we are waiting for the Cane Toad Tadpole Trap to work its magic catching cane toad tadpoles\, Watergum staff will deliver an educational talk on the impacts and background of cane toads\, how you can control toads in your area and a lesson in cane toad ID.\nAfter the talk\, Watergum staff will demonstrate how to remove the tadpole trap and collect your caught cane toad tadpoles.\nWatergum’s Cane Toad Tadpole Traps and Lures will be available to purchase at the event!\n\n \nSpaces are limited so please REGISTER! \n \nLet’s make a difference and impact cane toads! \n \nFor more information and the event address please email Catherine.M@scenicrim.qld.gov.au
