This is an opportunity for residents to attend a BioBlitz in November and if you like it come to some of our others.  \nIf you have an interest in nature and all the fascinating plants and creatures\, this is the event for you. Spend the day exploring the conservation areas that surround your neighbourhood with family and/or friends as there will be something to do for everyone! \nBook in and enjoy a morning\, afternoon or evening of flora and fauna research with expert survey leaders. They’ll be showing you the intricate natural features of your neighbourhood and sharing their expertise in each of their own field ! Starting off in the morning with Bird Surveys by Jai Rhandhawa and Emily Boys (Wildlife Photographers)\, Lyndsey Kershaw (Wildlife Educator)\, Nadya Lees (Senior Wildife Ecologist)\, then choices between a Koala Survey by Natalie McLeod (Koala Researcher)\, Botany Survey by Clay Stokoe (Gainsborough Greens Original Botanist)and a kid friendly Frog Hotel building workshop by Watergum (Environmental Community Organisation). A sausage sizzle for lunch will be provided by Mirvac before the afternoon’s activities.  \nThen\, post lunch there’s choices between two Botany Surveys. You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways. \nWaterbugs are not only an important food source for many creatures\, but they play a vital role in the health of our waterways. DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island Site 2\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses.  \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast.  \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques.  \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night-time adventure during FrogID Week to see which frog species are hiding in Logan’s parks and natural spaces!\n\n\nAustralia has over 240 species of native frogs. They are all around us and we want to teach you how to spot them and  appreciate them safely. \nThese amphibians are amazing – they drink through their skin\, use their eyes to swallow and inhabit every layer of the forest from the floor to the very tops of the trees! Frogs are one of the most threatened groups of animals on the planet\, it’s super important to learn as much about them as possible so we can help to support wild populations.  \nCome along for this family fun walk and have the opportunity to accompany a frog expert of a real wildlife survey. You will receive a crash course in frogs before venturing out into the night to see what we can find and document! \nDuring the walk you can take part in Australia’s Biggest Frog Count for FrogID Week (11 – 20  November 2022). Record frog calls through the free FrogID app to help measure the health and distribution of frogs around the nation. From croaks and barks\, to whistles and bleats\, every frog species makes a unique sound. You are guaranteed to learn something new\, develop your ID skills and connect with some fellow nature lovers. \nThere are a wide variety of surveys to join\, so you’re sure to find something you love! Go on as many surveys as you like\, choose from birds\, reptiles\, fungi\, gliders\, crayfish\, mammal trapping\, fish\, glow worms\, bees\, macropods\, flora\, frogs\, bats and more! \nIf you want to learn more about Gold Coast’s fascinating biodiversity then this is the event for you! He chooses the full weekend accommodation and meal package ($180). He then selects individual survey tickets; one for the Friday night ($20)\, one survey ticket for Saturday morning ($20)\, one for Saturday night ($20) and one for Sunday morning ($20). He won’t purchase a ticket for the Saturday afternoon as he is keen to sit in on some of the workshops at the basecamp (FREE!). His BioBlitz cost will be $260. Peter reckons that’s a pretty good deal for a full weekend of flora and fauna goodness.\nExample B: Virginia (68) is keen to join 2 surveys on the Saturday. The Saturday morning surveys starts at 5:30AM so Virginia chooses to stay the night on Friday so she doesn’t have to get up very early to get to the event. She selects to stay in a single bunk ($35) and then books a Saturday morning survey (easy grade) ($20) and the Saturday afternoon survey (easy grade) ($20). Because of her bad knee\, she can’t join the Medium and Mountain Goat grade surveys. She also takes out 3 meal tickets for Saturday Breakfast ($14)\, Saturday Lunch ($18) and Saturday Dinner ($20) as she is going to stay in the evening to join some presentations (FREE!). Her BioBlitz cost will be $127.\nExample C: Susan is looking to bring her family of 7 on the Saturdy night as the family have a keen interest in learning about the Gold Coast flora and fauna. Susan chooses to book the family cabin ($200) so that the family can be together. The family will require Saturday dinner ($140) and breakfast Sunday ($98). Susan has a two 6 year olds\, a 7 year old\, an 8 year old and a teenager. Susan chooses to book a survey for the teenager and the dad to go on Sunday morning ($40) and decides she will take the little ones to a kids survey (FREE!). Her BioBlitz cost will be $478\, only $68 per person!\n\n\nSafety Guidelines \nPlease take into account your physical abilities whilst purchasing tickets. Please make sure to read each individual ticket description carefully as this will mention if it is easy\, medium\, hard or mountain goat. Don’t overestimate your abilities as you will be out in the bush for multiple hours! There are plenty of free presentations and workshops at our basecamp throughout Saturday and Sunday so you will be able to enjoy the event even if you can’t join our surveys. \nCovid Safe \nThe event will run in accordance with Government advice.
