SUMMARY:Seagrass Survey – Kayak Adventure to Wavebreak Island Site 2
DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – Wavebreak Island Site 2\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses. \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast. \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques. \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. You can find it here: www.watergum.org/online-classroom/ \nIt is essential that you bring: \n• Enclosed shoes\, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! Thongs\, sandals and barefoot are not suitable and you will not be allowed to take part. \n• Sun safe clothing\, hat\, sunglasses\, sun cream and wind jacket \n• Water and snacks \nThis program is hosted by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast. \nFor more information on Seagrass\, go to: www.watergum.org/seagrass \nseagrass@watergum.org \nPlease make sure you are aware of the current covid-19 distancing requirements and protocols. \nLOCATION AND OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION WILL BE SENT ONE WEEK PRIOR VIA EMAIL UPON REGISTRATION.

SUMMARY:Waterbugs Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling budding water investigators of all ages!\n\n\nJoin us for our Waterbugs Survey and learn how to be a clever water investigator using all sorts of special equipment. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \nUsing your detective skills\, you will be encouraged to discover and identify the amazing creatures lurking under the surface. You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways. \nWaterbugs are not only an important food source for many creatures\, but they play a vital role in the health of our waterways. Some are very sensitive to pollution\, so through monitoring their numbers and diversity we can keep track of how healthy our waterways are. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nImportant information: \n\nSign up today\, spaces are limited! \nThis event is suitable for children 6 and over – parental/guardian supervision required.\nPlease make sure you are aware of current COVID-19 restrictions.\nFor more information email watermonitoring@watergum.org and the website: www.watergum.org\n\nThe workshop is delivered by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities Program and citizen science initiatives under the Albert River Vision.
