SUMMARY:Waterbugs Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling budding water investigators of all ages!\n\n\nJoin us for our final Waterbugs Survey and learn how to be a clever water investigator using all sorts of special equipment. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \nUsing your detective skills\, you will be encouraged to discover and identify the amazing creatures lurking under the surface. You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways. \nWaterbugs are not only an important food source for many creatures\, but they play a vital role in the health of our waterways. Some are very sensitive to pollution\, so through monitoring their numbers and diversity we can keep track of how healthy our waterways are. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nImportant information: \n\nSign up today via Eventbrite\, spaces are limited!\nThis event is suitable for children 6 and over – parental/guardian supervision required.\nPlease make sure you are aware of current COVID-19 restrictions.\nFor more information email watermonitoring@watergum.org and the website: www.watergum.org\n\nThe workshop is delivered by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities Program and citizen science initiatives under the Albert River Vision.

SUMMARY:Feral Deer Field Work
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the field to learn how to recognise deer damage in the environment and how to conduct your own deer monitoring\n\n\nAlthough seldom seen\, feral deer populations are increasing in the Gold Coast region and so is the extent of their damage to natural areas. \nWith help from the community\, we can get a better understanding of which areas are being most impacted by feral deer. \nThis friendly morning session will teach you how to recognise evidence of feral deer in the environment and how to conduct your own monitoring in your local area. \n \nItinerary \n9:00am – 9:30am – Introduction to feral deer and how to monitor feral deer yourselves \n9:30am-10:15am – Guided walk to learn how to recognise evidence of feral deer and how to log your route and observations \n10:15am – 10:45am – Morning Tea \n10:45am – 11:30am – A chance to put your skills to the test\, conduct your own Deer Walk and log your route and observations \n11:30 – 12:00am – Regroup and compare our findings \n \nWe will also have Jacob White\, one of our BioBlitz survey leaders along for the morning to conduct a botany survey of the area\, which anyone is welcome to join. This vegetation assessment will help us to understand how deer are impacting local biodiversity. \n \nKit List \nEnclosed\, sturdy shoes \nLong sleeves and long pants \nHat and sunglasses \nInsect repellant and sun block \nDrinking water \nBinoculars \nSmart phone (if you have one\, it’s fine if you don’t) with the ‘All Trails’ app and the ‘Feral Scan’ app downloaded \n \nAdditional details and the exact location of the session will be emailed to you a week prior to the event. \n \nWe look forward to seeing you all in the field! \n \nIf you feel unwell\, please stay home.

SUMMARY:Watergum Deer - Feral Deer Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Feral Deer Information Session\n\n\nHelp to monitor what is commonly described as Australia’s worst emerging pest species. \nFeral deer numbers are rapidly increasing on the Gold Coast and we need help from the community to monitor their distribution and impacts. \nIn addition to impacting agriculture and presenting a danger to motorists\, feral deer cause significant long term damage to the environment. Classed as ecosystem engineers\, deer have the ability to entirely change landscapes through their behaviour\, to the detriment of native species. \nYou can help to monitor feral deer by learning how to identify different species\, how to recognise deer damage in the environment\, and most importantly by logging your sightings! \nTo learn all about feral deer and to better understand the damage they cause\, please come along to our community workshop where we will also explain how you can help to monitor feral deer and contribute to the preservation of the environment for our vulnerable native species. \nPlease register for a ticket and additional detailed will be emailed to you a week prior to the event. \n \nSee you all soon! \n \nIf you feel unwell\, please stay at home.
