SUMMARY:Waterbugs – Currumbin
DESCRIPTION:Waterbugs – Currumbin\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs!\n \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun!\n \nCoordinated by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast and Logan City Council. The Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers and Austinville Landcare.\n \nWhat to bring\n \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns.\n \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves\n \n*Towel\n \n*Lots of drinking water\n \n*Glasses/contact lenses\n \n*Pen/pencil\n \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates on locations and times! This program is suitable for all age levels.\n \nWebsite: www.watergum.org\n \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org\n \nPlease make sure that you’re aware of current covid-19 restrictions: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19

SUMMARY:Water Quality - Coomera
DESCRIPTION:Water Quality Survey\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways through water quality sampling! \nHelp the team collect readings using our state of the art equipment. The Water Quality program collects monthly readings at select locations in order to assess the changing quality of our waterways throughout the year. We also rely on our volunteers to record observational details that could have an effect on the water quality reading such as current and recent weather conditions\, visible rubbish and pollution\, weeds\, site usage or disturbance\, and wildlife sightings. \nThe data collected is shared with local councils and highlights those areas where action needs to be taken! If you are passionate about the environment and keen to contribute to its preservation\, we encourage you to come along and meet like-minded people while learning new skills and collecting vital data! \nWe are heading out to our Northern sites with the Coomera River Catchment Group! Meeting time will be at 09:00 AM at Rivermill Terrace picnic area\, just off Riverstone crossing\, Coomera. \n What to bring \nGum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns. \nSun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \nTowel \nLots of drinking water \nGlasses/contact lenses \nPen/pencil \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates! \nThis event is a collaborative effort between Watergum\, Gecko and Coomera River Catchment Group and is supported by City of Gold Coast
