SUMMARY:Waterbugs & Water Quality - Coomera
DESCRIPTION:Waterbug and Water Quality Survey\n\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs! \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun! \nCoordinated by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast (Catchment Management Unit)\, the Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers\, Austinville Landcare & Somerset College \nWe are heading out with the Coomera Crew! Location to be confirmed. 9-11am. \nWhat to bring \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns. \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n*Towel \n*Lots of drinking water \n*Glasses/contact lenses \n*Pen/pencil \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates on locations and times! This program is suitable for all age levels. \nWebsite: www.watergum.org \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org \nPlease make sure that you’re aware of current covid-19 restrictions: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19

SUMMARY:Seagrass Survey - South Stradbroke Island Site 2
DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Strabroke Island\n\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses. \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast! \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques. \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by assisting us in our vital work monitoring seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. \nWe are heading out to South Stradbroke Island on Sunday 18th of October. \nPlease make sure you’re up to date with the latest covid-19 protocols. \nIt is essential that you bring: \n•	Enclosed shoes\, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! \n•	Sun safe clothing\, hat\, sun cream and wind jacket \n•	Water and snacks \nThis program is hosted by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast. \nwww.watergum.org/seagrass \nseagrass@watergum.org
