This is a great activity for the whole family. \nMeeting location: John Baker Reserve\, Banora Point – meet in front of the carpark off Darlington Drive. \n \nCome along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! There will be prizes up for grabs for the top toad busters! \n \nHow the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, then we will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit\, please bring it along on the night! DESCRIPTION:Help gather data for our new citizen science study to monitor the impacts of invasive cane toads on native frog species!\n\n\nCity of Gold Coast has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring a new cane toad citizen science study to the Gold Coast. \nAs a part of our new study we need your help to monitor native frog species at our study site of Schuster Park to better understand the impacts of invasive cane toads on these species.  \n \nJoin our Frog Survey at 6:30pm on Thursday the 13 February 2025 at Schuster Park\, and work together to monitor native species! We’ll be meeting by the Schuster Park playground. \n \nOur experienced guides and local frog expert will lead you throughout the park\, sharing tips and tricks to help you spot our amazing amphibians in their natural habitat. \nDuring the night you’ll contribute in our new citizen science project by recording species sightings! Using the free FrogID app we’ll be recording frog calls and sightings to help measure the health and distribution of frogs across Gold Coast. \n \nWe’ll begin with a brief educational talk\, followed by an introduction to our new citizen science study and how YOU can get involved! Participants must be physically able to be stand and walk through a park for up to 2.5 hours – moderate fitness required.\nYou must register and secure a ticket for all people attending. Cane toads are toxic at every life stage and female cane toads can lay up to 35\,000 eggs at a time! This is a great activity for the whole family. \nMeeting location: Pottsville Environmental Park\, at the end of Centennial Drive. \n \nCome along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! This event will also be the induction for our new citizen science project\, where we’ll be measuring the impacts of toad busting on local toad populations. \n \nHow the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, followed by an overview and induction of our citizen science study. Then we will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. DESCRIPTION:Come along for a special guided walk during Platypus Month to learn about a unique local mammal with a platypus expert.\n\n\nJoin PlatypusWatch for a walk through platypus habitat in the Albert River catchment and learn all about this iconic species. Led by ecologist and platypus expert\, Dr Tamielle Brunt from Wildlife Queensland\, you’ll discover everything from their fascinating biology and behaviour to the habitat and food they need to survive. \nWe’ll also talk about local conservation efforts and how you can support local platypus populations by getting involved with Watergum’s surveys along the Albert River. Following the walk\, a light morning tea will be provided and you will have the opportunity to ask the experts additional questions. \nPlease note\, there is no guarantee that platypuses will be present during the guided walk. \n \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU REGISTER: \n\nThis event is designed for adults and families.\nRecommended for ages 8 years and older with parent/guardian supervision.\nThis is an outdoor walk in a bushland environment with uneven surfaces and unsealed tracks. Participants must be physically able to be stand and walk through a park for up to 1.5 hours.\nYou must register and secure a ticket for all people attending. DESCRIPTION:Complete the PlatypusWatch induction to learn everything you need to know about the unique platypus and how to survey them correctly.\n\n\nPlatypusWatch has been monitoring Gold Coast platypus populations for over 11 years with the help of hundreds of Gold Coast volunteers. The data collected helps us to monitor their behaviour\, their reponse to potential threats such as urban development and extrememe weather events\, and provides us with an early warning system to prevent another extintion event which was sadly witnessed in Tallebudgera Creek. \n  \nThis workshop will educate you on platypus history\, their fascinating biology and some of their most significant threats. You will also be taught how to correctly identify a platypus and the proper methodology for platypus surveying. \n  \nOnce you have completed this induction you can jopin the PlatypusWatch family and join us in surveying platypus twice annually accross the Gold Coast\, as well contributing to our daily survey research for the Platypus365 Project. \n  \nThis event will take place online\, please register your attendance so we know how many to expect and we hope to see you at one of our surveys soon! \n  \nPlatypusWatch is supported and funded by the City of Gold Coast.
