This is an opportunity for experienced and amateur nature lovers to spend a few hours with an expert and look for the wonderful wildlife in the biodiversity hot spot that is Springbrook on December 4th\, 5th and 6th. \nIf you have an interest in the hinterland and its fascinating plants and creatures\, this is the event for you. Spend the weekend in Springbrook with the family and/or friends as there will be something to do for everyone! \nBook in and enjoy a morning\, afternoon or evening of wildlife research! Think birds\, reptiles\, echidnas\, gliders\, crayfish\, bandicoots\, fish\, glow worms\, macropods\, flora\, frogs\, bats and more! \nSmall survey groups will team up with leading scientists and head out into nature to learn observational skills and how to properly identify different species. \nMultiple surveys searching for a variety of different species will be taking place on the 4th\, 5th and 6th of December. You can come to one\, come to two\, come to as many as you like! If you want to\, you can even camp out for the whole weekend with the family! DESCRIPTION:Waterbug and Water Quality Survey\n\n\n\nLearn how to  assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs! \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun! \nCome along to one of our surveys and learn how to collect a waterbug sample\, and how to sift through\, collect and identify dozens of different waterbugs. You will also learn how to score each bug on the pollution sensitivity scale to arrive at your overall water quality rating. We promise you\, you will be amazed at the quantity and the diversity of waterbugs that exist in our waterways! \nAlso\, seize the opportunity to use our state of the art water quality probe to record vital data regarding our local water composition! Water pH\, oxygen levels\, temperature and other parameters can have a huge impact on the quality of our waterways which the Water Quality program assesses through monthly readings. We also rely on our volunteers to record observational details that could effect waterbug numbers or the water quality reading such as current and recent weather conditions\, visible rubbish and pollution\, weeds\, site usage or disturbance\, and wildlife sightings. \nCoordinated by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast (Catchment Management Unit)\, the Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers\, Austinville Landcare & Somerset College  \nWe are heading out with the Coomera Crew! DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island\n\n\n\nWe need volunteers with a passion for environmental science and the preservation of our coastal environments to assist us in our vital work monitoring seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! \nSeagrass is an important food source for many of our iconic ocean creatures such as dugongs\, turtles and seahorses! It is also an ecosystem engineer balancing heavy-metals\, pollutants and nutrients levels and stabilising sediment to prevent coastal erosion. We are alarmed at the rate of disappearance of Seagrass globally and here on the Gold Coast.  Seagrass-Watch has been designed by experts and is part of a global network of citizen scientists dedicated to collecting valuable data and we need your help! \nBy coming to one of our Seagrass surveys you will have a lot of fun\, as well as contributing towards the collection of important scientific data. We need hardy volunteers who don’t mind getting wet and are looking to meet some like-minded people while learning some new skills! We encourage university students\, outdoor enthusiasts\, adventurous friends and families. Just be sure to contact us is you would like to bring children so that we can confirm whether a particular site is suitable for small people. \nBring your enthusiasm\, appropriate clothing and water shoes for the event and be prepared to have a lot of laughs and make new friends. We hope to see you there!  \nGold Coast Seagrass is an established program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast.
