SUMMARY:Waterbugs – Currumbin
DESCRIPTION:Waterbugs – Currumbin\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs!\n \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun!\n \nCoordinated by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast and Logan City Council. The Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers and Austinville Landcare.\n \nWhat to bring\n \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns.\n \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves\n \n*Towel\n \n*Lots of drinking water\n \n*Glasses/contact lenses\n \n*Pen/pencil\n \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates on locations and times! This program is suitable for all age levels.\n \nWebsite: www.watergum.org\n \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org\n \nPlease make sure that you’re aware of current covid-19 restrictions: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19

SUMMARY:Waterbugs Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling budding water investigators of all ages!\n\n\nJoin us for our Waterbugs Survey and learn how to be a clever water investigator using all sorts of special equipment. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \nUsing your detective skills\, you will be encouraged to discover and identify the amazing creatures lurking under the surface. You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways. \nWaterbugs are not only an important food source for many creatures\, but they play a vital role in the health of our waterways. Some are very sensitive to pollution\, so through monitoring their numbers and diversity we can keep track of how healthy our waterways are. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nImportant information: \n\nSign up today\, spaces are limited! \nThis event is suitable for children 6 and over – parental/guardian supervision required.\nPlease make sure you are aware of current COVID-19 restrictions.\nFor more information email watermonitoring@watergum.org and the website: www.watergum.org\n\nThe workshop is delivered by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities Program and citizen science initiatives under the Albert River Vision.

DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island Site 2\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses. \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast. \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques. \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. You can find it here: www.watergum.org/online-classroom/ \nIt is essential that you bring: \n• Enclosed shoes\, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! Thongs\, sandals and barefoot are not suitable and you will not be allowed to take part. \n• Sun safe clothing\, hat\, sunglasses\, sun cream and wind jacket \n• Water and snacks \nThis program is hosted by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast. \nFor more information on Seagrass\, go to: www.watergum.org/seagrass \nseagrass@watergum.org \nPlease make sure you are aware of the current covid-19 distancing requirements and protocols. \nLOCATION AND OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION WILL BE SENT ONE WEEK PRIOR VIA EMAIL UPON REGISTRATION.

DESCRIPTION:Tree planting to continue the Gold Coast Biggest Tree Planting Day efforts and help link Springbrook NP with Lamington NP.\n\n\nThe Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre P&C (NVEEC P&C) is excited to continue their Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery grant 2021/22 project in April with another monthly community field day. \nOur field days are about members and community volunteers coming together to work in one of our key restoration zones in the Numinbah Valley. If you’re looking to get active and do something positive for the local environment why not join in to help us plant 800+ native plants?! \nAfterwards\, everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy a cuppa which includes our famous morning tea! \nThis month we have special guest Watergum conduct more Waterbug water quality testing on the Nerang River. Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in valuable citizen science on the Gold Coast’s water supply. \nChildren are welcome to attend\, they must be supervised by an adult at all times to ensure their safety and quality of work is maintained e.g. plants correctly planted and watered as per instructions. \nPlease bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing for working in the bush- including enclosed footwear \nPlease register for COVID-19 compliance. \nAddress: 2804 Nerang Murwillumbah Rd Numinbah Valley QLD 4211 \nParking: Look out for signs. SUMMARY:Watergum Deer - Feral Deer Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Feral Deer Information Session\n\n\nHelp to monitor what is commonly described as Australia’s worst emerging pest species. \nFeral deer numbers are rapidly increasing on the Gold Coast and we need help from the community to monitor their distribution and impacts. \nIn addition to impacting agriculture and presenting a danger to motorists\, feral deer cause significant long term damage to the environment. Classed as ecosystem engineers\, deer have the ability to entirely change landscapes through their behaviour\, to the detriment of native species. \nYou can help to monitor feral deer by learning how to identify different species\, how to recognise deer damage in the environment\, and most importantly by logging your sightings! \nTo learn all about feral deer and to better understand the damage they cause\, please come along to our community workshop where we will also explain how you can help to monitor feral deer and contribute to the preservation of the environment for our vulnerable native species. \nPlease register for a ticket and additional detailed will be emailed to you a week prior to the event. \n \nSee you all soon! \n \nIf you feel unwell\, please stay at home.
