DESCRIPTION:Join us for THE GREAT CANE TOAD BUST and help hunt for one of Australia’s most unwanted pests!\n\n\nCome along to this one of a kind event – Cane Toad Busting – where you and your family can directly help Logan’s biodiversity. Council has partnered with Watergum to play our part in reducing cane toads numbers and in doing so\, provide a safer environment for our native frogs and other wildlife. \nCane toads are highly toxic at every life stage\, presenting a significant danger to pets\, wildlife and agriculture. These pests spread at an alarming rate and we need to work together to reduce their numbers and reclaim our properties and natural areas. \nAs we explore Berrinba Wetlands\, you learn all about our native frogs\, how to identify cane toads\, how to collect them by hand and then how to remove them from the environment. There will be a giveaway for the participant who collect the most toads on the night! \nThe Great Cane Toad Bust is a national initiative\, held annually\, to impact cane toad populations. Frogs are one of the most threatened groups of animals on the planet\, it’s super important to learn as much about them as possible so we can help to support wild populations.  \nCome along for this family fun walk and have the opportunity to accompany a frog expert of a real wildlife survey. You will receive a crash course in frogs before venturing out into the night to see what we can find and document! \nDuring the walk you can help measure the health and distribution of frogs around the nation. You are guaranteed to learn something new\, develop your ID skills and connect with some fellow nature lovers. \nThere are a wide variety of surveys to join\, so you’re sure to find something you love! Go on as many surveys as you like\, choose from birds\, reptiles\, fungi\, gliders\, crayfish\, mammal trapping\, fish\, glow worms\, bees\, macropods\, flora\, frogs\, bats and more! \nIf you want to learn more about Gold Coast’s fascinating biodiversity then this is the event for you! As well as our many wildlife surveys we have a whole program of environmental workshops\, presentations and activities going on at basecamp\, so join us with the family for the whole weekend! \nThis year we are excited to announce the introduction of kid’s surveys. Because of her bad knee\, she can’t join the Medium and Mountain Goat grade surveys. She also takes out 3 meal tickets for Saturday Breakfast ($14)\, Saturday Lunch ($18) and Saturday Dinner ($20) as she is going to stay in the evening to join some presentations (FREE!). Her BioBlitz cost will be $127.\nExample C: Susan is looking to bring her family of 7 on the Saturdy night as the family have a keen interest in learning about the Gold Coast flora and fauna. Susan chooses to book the family cabin ($200) so that the family can be together. The family will require Saturday dinner ($140) and breakfast Sunday ($98). Susan has a two 6 year olds\, a 7 year old\, an 8 year old and a teenager. Susan chooses to book a survey for the teenager and the dad to go on Sunday morning ($40) and decides she will take the little ones to a kids survey (FREE!). Her BioBlitz cost will be $478\, only $68 per person!\n\n\nSafety Guidelines \nPlease take into account your physical abilities whilst purchasing tickets. DESCRIPTION:Join us out in nature for this interactive kids workshop that will teach you all about the froggy friends that we have in our environment.\n\n\nCome along to one of Logan’s local parks for this hands-on workshop during FrogID Week to learn all about our native frogs and what you can do to help them in your garden! \nAustralia is home to more than 240 species of frogs that come in many different shapes and sizes. They are a favourite visitor in gardens\, and it doesn’t matter where you are in the City of Logan or how big your outdoor space is\, you will surely have frogs lurking nearby. \nThis workshop\, that both kids and adults will thoroughly enjoy\, includes an introductory presentation that will help you to identify your hopping friends and learn all about their specific needs. DESCRIPTION:A TurtleWatch Beach Clean by Watergum and Sea World sponsored by Landcare Australia\, Billabong and Boardriders\n\n\nJoin TurtleWatch for a Beach Clean at various local beaches this turtle season! \nFrom November through to March\, TurtleWatch Gold Coast in collaboration with Watergum and Sea World will be visiting beaches along the Gold Coast to spread awareness about turtle activity. These beach cleans ups will aim to educate local communities on the importance of marine turtles\, their presence on the Gold Coast\, and what we can do to help! \nGuided turtles walks will run simultaneously whilst rubbish is removed from turtle nesting habitats. As we collect rubbish\, a TurtleWatch representative will run through how to conduct TurtleWalk so attendees can conduct their own independently and contribute to turtle data! \nThe TurtleWalk will go through the following components: \n\nGeneral turtle education\nTurtle ID and patterns\nHow to monitor turtle activity to collect data\nTurtle First Aid\nTurtleWatch Data entry\n\nThis event is a great way to improve your turtle knowledge as well as the techniques used to monitor turtle activity here on the Gold Coast. \nPlease register to receive event details. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night-time adventure during FrogID Week to see which frog species are hiding in Logan’s parks and natural spaces!\n\n\nAustralia has over 240 species of native frogs. They are all around us and we want to teach you how to spot them and  appreciate them safely. \nThese amphibians are amazing – they drink through their skin\, use their eyes to swallow and inhabit every layer of the forest from the floor to the very tops of the trees! Frogs are one of the most threatened groups of animals on the planet\, it’s super important to learn as much about them as possible so we can help to support wild populations.  \nCome along for this family fun walk and have the opportunity to accompany a frog expert of a real wildlife survey. You will receive a crash course in frogs before venturing out into the night to see what we can find and document! \nDuring the walk you can take part in Australia’s Biggest Frog Count for FrogID Week (11 – 20  November 2022). Record frog calls through the free FrogID app to help measure the health and distribution of frogs around the nation. From croaks and barks\, to whistles and bleats\, every frog species makes a unique sound. Using the free FrogID app\, you can record the frogs calling around you and help us count Australia’s frogs. \nRequirements: \n\nPlease wear fully long pants\, long-sleeved shirt and enclosed shoes.\nPlease bring water bottle\, a torch and a fully charged mobile device with FrogID app downloaded.\nSuitable for ages 5 years and over\, parent/guardian supervision required. \n\nImportant information: \n\nBookings required for all attendees. DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island Site 2\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses.  \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast.  \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques.  \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. You can find it here: www.watergum.org/online-classroom/ \nIt is essential that you bring: \n• Enclosed shoes\, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways. \nWaterbugs are not only an important food source for many creatures\, but they play a vital role in the health of our waterways.
