DESCRIPTION:Seagrass Survey – South Stradbroke Island Site 2\n\n\nSeagrass is an important ecosystem engineer providing food and habitat for a diverse array of marine organisms\, including turtles\, dugongs and seahorses.  \nGlobally\, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate and it is vital that we monitor its condition here on the Gold Coast.  \nWatergum Seagrass is an established citizen science program in partnership with the City of Gold Coast\, following globally standardised Seagrass-Watch scientific monitoring techniques.  \nHave fun\, meet new people and improve your science skills by helping us to monitor seagrass meadows on the Gold Coast! Onsite training will be provided\, however we ask that new volunteers complete our quick online course prior to attending their first event. You can find it here: www.watergum.org/online-classroom/ \nIt is essential that you bring: \n• Enclosed shoes\, preferably hard soled wetsuit boots but old runners or dive boots are ok. They will get wet and muddy! This is an opportunity for residents to attend a BioBlitz in November and if you like it come to some of our others.  \nIf you have an interest in nature and all the fascinating plants and creatures\, this is the event for you. Spend the day exploring the conservation areas that surround your neighbourhood with family and/or friends as there will be something to do for everyone! \nBook in and enjoy a morning\, afternoon or evening of flora and fauna research with expert survey leaders. They’ll be showing you the intricate natural features of your neighbourhood and sharing their expertise in each of their own field ! Starting off in the morning with Bird Surveys by Jai Rhandhawa and Emily Boys (Wildlife Photographers)\, Lyndsey Kershaw (Wildlife Educator)\, Nadya Lees (Senior Wildife Ecologist)\, then choices between a Koala Survey by Natalie McLeod (Koala Researcher)\, Botany Survey by Clay Stokoe (Gainsborough Greens Original Botanist)and a kid friendly Frog Hotel building workshop by Watergum (Environmental Community Organisation). A sausage sizzle for lunch will be provided by Mirvac before the afternoon’s activities.  \nThen\, post lunch there’s choices between two Botany Surveys. SUMMARY:Scenic Rim BioBlitz - Black Rock Rd
DESCRIPTION:Join the experts and enjoy a weekend of exploration in nature on Stenzel – Black Rock property.\n\n\nJoin the Scenic Rim Regional Council (Land for Wildlife) on guided walks on private property on Black Rock Road in Coochin. The Stenzel family has always had a keen interest in wildlife and the current owners maintain detailed records of flora and fauna. Quite a number of flora surveys have been conducted over the last 35 years\, and expert botanists regularly visit the property.  \nBe part of the BioBlitz in 2022 by getting involved this October! This event is for everyone\, no matter what your level of expertise is. \nThe purpose of this event is to highlight both the immense biodiversity spread across the Scenic Rim\, as well as to engage the public in science and nature learning using the citizen science platform iNaturalist. You can add all your data into the Scenic Rim project to share what you have found as well as see what other participants found in their area!  \nThis will be a fun and educational activity where you will be able to enhance your knowledge and connect with fellow nature lovers and experts in the field.  \nThe surveys are quite intensive\, therefore\, please make sure that you book surveys appropriately so that others can join the BioBlitz too. Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. The data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun! \nCoordinated by Watergum and supported by the City of Gold Coast (Catchment Management Unit)\, the Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers and Austinville Landcare. \nWe are heading out with the Austinville Crew! 965 Austinville Road\, Austinville. DESCRIPTION:Tree planting to continue the Gold Coast Biggest Tree Planting Day efforts and help link Springbrook NP with Lamington NP.\n\n\nThe Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre P&C (NVEEC P&C) is excited to continue their Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery grant 2021/22 project in April with another monthly community field day. \nOur field days are about members and community volunteers coming together to work in one of our key restoration zones in the Numinbah Valley. If you’re looking to get active and do something positive for the local environment why not join in to help us plant 800+ native plants?! \nAfterwards\, everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy a cuppa which includes our famous morning tea! \nThis month we have special guest Watergum conduct more Waterbug water quality testing on the Nerang River.
