DESCRIPTION:A hands-on community workshop where you’ll be able to build your own free nestbox to take home! \n\n\n\n\nJoin Watergum for a hands-on Currumbin Nest Box Workshop at the beautiful Currumbin Valley Environmental Education Centre in the heart of the Currumbin Valley. \nThe day starts with a guided tour of the Centre’s beautiful campus. Known for its focus on environmental education\, sustainability\, and connecting people with nature\, the Centre offers a range of wildlife-friendly spaces. Participants will explore the grounds and discover how the site incorporates habitat-friendly design\, natural resource management\, and outdoor learning areas to support biodiversity and inspire environmental stewardship in students and the wider community. \nThe practical workshop\, led by Hollow Log Homes\, will include an engaging discussion on the importance of wildlife habitat and how landholders can help native species through nest boxes and other habitat structures. Participants will then get hands-on\, building their own nest box (or similar habitat structure) to take home and install on their property. \nThis project is funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program\, with the support of Watergum Community.

You’ll also learn about their impact around your home and local environment\, how to toad-proof your home\, and how to create habitat for native frogs and other wildlife. \nPerfect for families\, frog lovers\, nature enthusiasts\, and anyone keen to make a positive impact in their local area – this is your chance to take action and be part of the toad busting movement! \n \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU REGISTER: \n\nThis event is designed for adults and families.\nRecommended for ages 5 years and older with parent/guardian supervision.\nThis is an outdoor event in a park with uneven surfaces and unsealed tracks. Participants must be physically able to be stand and walk through a park for up to 2 hours.\nWe will euthanise and dispose of the toads humanely and responsibly after the event.\nYou must register and secure a ticket for all people attending. Saturday\, 7 March 2026⏰ 7pm?Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve on Casuarina Drive\, Elanora. Parking can be found Casuarina Drive. \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to: \n\nmeet some like-minded individuals\nlearn some new toad busting skills\nmake a difference for our environment\n\nThis Bust is extra special because we’ll be continuing our new research project ToadTrack on the Gold Coast. Saturday\, 10 January 2026⏰ 7pm?Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve on Casuarina Drive\, Elanora. Parking can be found Casuarina Drive. \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to: \n\nmeet some like-minded individuals\nlearn some new toad busting skills\nmake a difference for our environment\n\nThis Bust is extra special because we’ll be continuing our new research project ToadTrack on the Gold Coast. This research project will assess whether consistent Toad Busting efforts can impact Cane Toad populations over time and will run for 3 years. \n?How the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, followed by an introduction to our new research project and how YOU can get involved! \nWe will then split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night.
