SUMMARY:Waterbug Sampling - Tallebudgera
DESCRIPTION:Waterbug Sampling – Tallebudgera\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by sampling and collecting data on waterbug species. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs. Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. \nThis activity is suitable for both children (age 5+) and adults. \nYou will learn how to collect waterbug samples correctly before collecting and identifying the different species. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nWe sample waterbugs 4 times a year\, come along to your local sampling session every three months to see how the biodiversity changes with the seasons. \nWhere is it? \nLions Park\, Tallebudgera Valley. \nGPS Co-ordinates -28.16094\, 153.39634 \n \nWhat to bring \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns. \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n*Towel \n*Lots of drinking water \n*Glasses/contact lenses \n \nPlease make sure to register to secure your place and receive event updates. \n \nI f we have to cancel this event due to weather concerns\, attendees will be notified via email. \n \nCity of Gold Coast funds Watergum’s Waterbug program for the community. \n \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org \nWebsite: www.watergum.org
