From croaks and barks to whistles and bleats\, every frog species makes a unique sound. Record frog calls through the free FrogID app to help measure the health and distribution of frogs around the nation.  \nThis event is ideal for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts looking to sharpen their senses. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of nature night! \n \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU REGISTER: \n\nThis event is designed for adults and not bookable for children under 18 years.\nThis is an outdoor walk in a bushland environment with uneven surfaces and unsealed tracks. This is a great activity for the whole family. \nMeeting location: Pottsville Environmental Park\, at the end of Centennial Drive. \n \nCome along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! This event will also be the induction for our new citizen science project\, where we’ll be measuring the impacts of toad busting on local toad populations. \n \nHow the event will run: \nWatergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk\, followed by an overview and induction of our citizen science study. DESCRIPTION:Watergum has partnered with Beaudesert Landcare and Scenic Rim Regional Council to deliver a cane toad tadpole trapping workshop.\n\n\nBeaudesert Landcare – Cane Toad Tadpole Trapping Workshop \nWatergum’s Cane Toad Tadpole Trapping is coming to the Scenic Rim! \nWatergum has partnered with Beaudesert Landcare and Scenic Rim Regional Council to deliver a hands-on cane toad tadpole trapping workshop this season.  \nBeaudesert Landcare have purchased a limited number of traps to lend out to interested participants for use on private properties and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to effectively use them. \n \nDid you know? Cane toads are toxic at every life stage and female cane toads can lay up to 35\,000 eggs at a time! DESCRIPTION:Watergum has partnered with Byron Shire Council to bring to bring the Cane Toad Challenge to Byron this season!\n\n\nByron Shire Council has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring cane toad control to Byron this season. \n \nCane toads in Byron cause declines in our native wildlife\, posion domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries. \nWe are working together to humanely and effectively control this pest species\, and create safe havens for biodiversity! \n \nJoin our Community Toad Bust and Cane Toad Info Session at 5.30pm on Thursday the 16th of January 2025 at Waterlily Park\, Ocean Shores\, and work together to control cane toads! \n \nToad busting is a fun event\, appropriate for the whole family! Come along to meet some like-minded individuals\, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! How the event will run: \n5.30pm-6pm: Watergum staff will deliver an educational talk on cane toads including their impacts on domestic pets/native wildlife and what you can do to help! \n6pm-6.30pm: Watergum staff will run a brief cane toad tadpole trapping workshop. \n6.30pm-7pm: Break for dinner\, light food will be available to purchase on the night. \n7pm-8pm: It’s time for toad busting! We will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can! \n8pm-8.30pm: Counting of toads and crowning our winning toad buster! \n \nPlease wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. We’ll be meeting by the Schuster Park playground. \n \nOur experienced guides and local frog expert will lead you throughout the park\, sharing tips and tricks to help you spot our amazing amphibians in their natural habitat. \nDuring the night you’ll contribute in our new citizen science project by recording species sightings! DESCRIPTION:Complete the PlatypusWatch induction to learn everything you need to know about the unique platypus and how to survey them correctly.\n\n\nPlatypusWatch has been monitoring Gold Coast platypus populations for over 12 years with the help of hundreds of Gold Coast volunteers. The data collected helps us to monitor their behaviour\, their reponse to potential threats such as urban development and extrememe weather events\, and provides us with an early warning system. \n \nThis workshop will educate you on platypus history\, their fascinating biology and some of their most significant threats. You will also be taught how to correctly identify a platypus and the proper methodology for platypus surveying. \n \nOnce you have completed this induction you can join the PlatypusWatch family and join us in surveying platypus twice annually accross the Gold Coast\, as well contribute to our daily  Platypus365 Project. \n \nThis event will take place online\, please register your attendance so we know how many to expect and we hope to see you at one of our surveys soon! \n \nPlatypusWatch is supported and funded by the City of Gold Coast.

DESCRIPTION:Tree planting to continue the Gold Coast Biggest Tree Planting Day efforts and help link Springbrook NP with Lamington NP\n\n\nThe Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre P&C (NVEEC P&C) is excited to continue its landscape scale restoration project “Numinbah-Holding Tight”\, which aims to restore habitat corridors linking Springbrook and Lamington National Parks\, and improve water quality within the Nerang River Catchment. \n \nThis project was initially started in August 2019\, at the Seqwater/Watergum- Gold Coast Biggest Tree Planting Day\, where 15\,000 native tube stock were planted by the community on old dairy pasture in the Numinbah Valley. \n \nIn Sept 2020\, NVEEC P&C became involved through funding from Landcare Australia\, where this volunteer group commenced monthly field days to encourage on-going community participation in this important project. \n \nToday\, NVEEC P&C with the help from community volunteers and high school students\, have since added a further 16\,000 native tube stock to the project and we are looking to grow this number even further in 2025! \n \nIf you’re looking to get your hands dirty\, meet others and contribute in a positive way to the local environment the NVEEC P&C field days are the perfect opportunity to volunteer for a couple of hours every quarter in 2025. \n \nAfterwards\, everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy a cuppa which includes our famous morning tea! \n \nChildren are welcome to attend\, they must be supervised by an adult at all times to ensure their safety and quality of work is maintained e.g. plants correctly planted and watered as per instructions. \n \nPlease be prepared for each field day by bringing the following: \n• Appropriate clothing for working in the bush (long pants and sleeves recommended) \n• Hat \n• Full water bottle \n• Enclosed shoes \n• Positive attitude! \n \nAddress: Gold Coast Model Flying Club- Nerang Murwillumbah Road (type this into Google).
