SUMMARY:PlatypusWatch Landholder Workshop - Currumbin
DESCRIPTION:*Please note there is a date change from the original proposed date\, this event will be held on July 27th\n\n\nPlatypusWatch Landholder Workshop \nEvery year\, hundreds of Gold Coast volunteers brave the early mornings to survey platypus and collect valuable data on population dispersal. In order to provide a comprehensive overview of their presence\, we need additional help from private property owners who boarder the waterways. We fear that platypus populations are in trouble and need to better understand where they are thriving and where they are not. \nThis workshop will teach you all about the unique platypus\, how to survey them from your own property and about how the data you collect will be used. Morning tea will be provided and we will finish with a guided walk along the creek to observe prime platypus habitat. \nPlatypusWatch surveying acts as an early warning system to populations in distress. Our increased surveying efforts will help to prevent another extinction event as was sadly witnessed in Tallebudgera Creek. \nGet involved now and help to protect the Gold Coast’s most treasured inhabitants. \nWorkshop Agenda: \n\nPresentation by Watergum\n\n– Overview of Platypus: History\, biology\, habitat\, breeding \n– Discussion on threats and conservation efforts \n– Guidance on Platypus identification \n– Introduction to PlatypusWatch surveying and sighting reports \n\nMorning/Afternoon Tea\n\n\nPresentation by City of Gold Coast\n\n– Insights on property care to support platypus habitat\, including riverbank erosion control\, regeneration\, weed control \n\nGuided Walk Along the Creek\n\n– Opportunity to observe and identify platypus habitat \n– Identification of potential threats such as erosion\, weed infestation \nThis workshop is supported and funded by the City of Gold Coast
