DESCRIPTION:Waterbug Sampling\n\n\nJoin Watergum as we sample the Nerang River for Waterbugs during project DAM. \nAward winning Queensland arts organisation\, SWELL Sculpture\, presents world renowned artists in an 11 day celebration of water\, connection to culture and community. Through the presentation of land art\, eco art experiences\, artist talks\, long table feast\, edible garden tours\, yoga\, bushwalks and more. Featuring artists Marcus Tatton\, Corrina Bonshek and Shannon Best showcasing major works\, WATERLINES is set to impress all who visit. 26 April to 5 May 2024\, Hinze Dam and surrounding Gold Coast Hinterland. \nFind out what’s on here: https://www.swellsculpture.com.au/swell-sculpture-waterlines \nDuring the survey you can learn how to assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs! \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \nThis activity is suitable for both children and adults\, help us collect a sample and see which species we can find. \nSome waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \n \nWhat to bring \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without close-toe shoes due to safety concerns. \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n*Towel \n*Lots of drinking water \n*Pen/pencil \n \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates on locations and times! SUMMARY:City Nature Challenge: Guided Walk
DESCRIPTION:The City Nature Challenge is an annual event where cities from around the world come together to explore their amazing local biodiversity and vie against each other\, in a collaborative and friendly challenge\, to find and document their local species. \nJoin us for a stroll through the wilderness to see what plants and animals we can find and learn about the tools we can use to identify and log them. The skills you will learn will help you to continue the challenge at home in your gardens and local area! \nDuring the 4-day challenge\, get out in Logan’s natural areas\, your backyard or a park and snap a photo of any wild plant or animal. Upload your sightings to the iNaturalist app or website\, add the location and share it to showcase Logan’s biodiversity. \nImportant information: \nRegistrations required for all attendees – spaces are limited!\nSuitable for ages 8 years and older – parent/guardian supervision required for under 18’s.\nThis event may be cancelled or postponed if the weather conditions aren’t suitable. We will notify you via text and email no later than 1 hour prior to the start of the event.\nIf you can no longer attend\, please cancel your booking via Eventbrite to free up your place to those who are on the waiting list.
