SUMMARY:Waterbug Sampling - Tallebudgera
DESCRIPTION:Waterbug Sampling – Tallebudgera\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways by sampling and collecting data on waterbug species. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs. Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. \nThis activity is suitable for both children (age 5+) and adults. \nYou will learn how to collect waterbug samples correctly before collecting and identifying the different species. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nWe sample waterbugs 4 times a year\, come along to your local sampling session every three months to see how the biodiversity changes with the seasons. \nWhere is it? \nLions Park\, Tallebudgera Valley. \nGPS Co-ordinates -28.16094\, 153.39634 \n \nWhat to bring \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns. \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n*Towel \n*Lots of drinking water \n*Glasses/contact lenses \n \nPlease make sure to register to secure your place and receive event updates. \n \nI f we have to cancel this event due to weather concerns\, attendees will be notified via email. \n \nCity of Gold Coast funds Watergum’s Waterbug program for the community. \n \nEmail: watermonitoring@watergum.org \nWebsite: www.watergum.org

SUMMARY:Toad Busting
DESCRIPTION:Come along to this one of a kind event – Cane Toad Busting – where you and your family can directly help Logan’s biodiversity.\n\n\n This event is delivered to help inform the community and reduce cane toad numbers and in doing so\, provide a safer environment for our native frogs and other wildlife. \nCane toads are highly toxic at every life stage\, presenting a significant danger to pets\, wildlife and agriculture. These pests spread at an alarming rate\, and we need to work together to reduce their numbers and reclaim our properties and natural areas. \nAs we explore the site\, you will learn all how to identify cane toads\, how to collect them by hand and then how to remove them from the environment. You may even spot some of the nocturnal native wildlife we are preserving the environment for! \nRequirements: \n\nPlease wear fully enclosed shoes.\nPlease bring water bottle\, insect repellent\, bucket (ideally with a lid)\, a torch\, rubber gloves and a litter picker (optional).\nSuitable for ages 10 years and over\, parent/guardian supervision required.\n\nImportant Information: \n\nBookings required for all attendees. Places are limited\nWe will euthanise and dispose of the toads humanely and responsibly after the event.\nIf you can no longer attend\, please cancel your booking via Eventbrite to free up your place to those who are on the waiting list. Alternatively\, contact the Councils Environment Team on (07) 3412 4491 or environment@logan.qld.gov.au.\nFor more information email canetoads@watergum.org and the website: www.watergum.org/canetoads\n\nThe workshop is delivered by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities program and Citizen Science initiatives. \nPlease visit logan.qld.gov.au/environmentalevents for a complete listing of all environmental events and activities run by Logan City Council
