SUMMARY:Waterbugs Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling all budding water investigators!\n\n\nCome along to our Waterbugs Survey and learn how to be a clever water investigator. \nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \nThey are just waiting to be discovered and identified\, using all sorts of special equipment. \nUsing your detective skills\, you will be encouraged to identify the amazing creatures lurking under the surface. You will learn how to forage for waterbugs and to check out what else is hidden in our waterways and rivers. \nSome of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not. \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. \nCollecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun! \nWaterbugs play a vital role in the health of our waterways. They are an important food source for many creatures\, including the platypus! \nThey also tell us how clean the water is as some waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution\, so if they’re not present we know there’s a problem. \nIt is important that we monitor waterbug numbers and diversity to allow us to keep track of how healthy of waterways are. \nThis is a hands-on session that we know you will thoroughly enjoy. \nImportant information: \n\nSign up today\, spaces are limited!\n\n\nThis event is suitable for children 6 and over – parental/guardian supervision required.\n\n\nPlease make sure you are aware of the current COVID-19 restrictions. For more information email watermonitoring@watergum.org and the website: www.watergum.org\n\nThe workshop is delivered by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities Program and citizen science initiatives under the Albert River Vision.
