DESCRIPTION:Learn how to assess the health of our waterways by foraging for waterbugs!\n\n\nYou may not have noticed before\, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different species of waterbugs! \n Some of these waterbugs are very sensitive to pollution and so through their presence or absence\, we are able to determine whether a particular waterway is healthy or not.  \nThe data collected is nationally recognised and is shared with our local councils to provide up to date information about the health of our waterways. Collecting and identifying these waterbugs also happens to be a whole heap of fun! \nThis event is suitable for children 6 and over – parental supervision required. \nPlease remember to bring or wear: \n*Gum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns. \n*Sun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves \n*Towel \n*Lots of drinking water \n*Glasses/contact lenses*Pen/pencil. \nPlease make sure you are aware of the current Covid-19 restrictions.  \nFor more information email watermonitoring@watergum.org  and the website: www.watergum.org \nThe workshop is delivered  by Watergum as part of the City of Logan’s Environmental Events and Activities Program and citizen science initiatives under the Albert River Vision.
