SUMMARY:Numinbah Valley Restoration Project
DESCRIPTION:Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre Parents & Citizens Association Incorporated (NVEEC P&C) was established in 2012 with the objective offacilitating the development and further improvement of the School\, and fostering community interest in environmental education within the local and broader community of the Gold Coast. \nIn 2014 NVEEC P&C commenced a community environmental restoration project on a portion of public land in the Numinbah Valley (next to the School of Arts building). The aim of this project is to rehabilitate a weed infested drainage line to an area with improved natural values. Tasks vary on site from session to session and often include elements of planting\, maintenance weeding and mulching. \nSite\nMeeting Point is Numinbah Valley School of Arts carpark. Project site is adjacent to the carpark- a drainage line flowing into the Nerang River. \nTime\n8:30-10:30am. We often have a cuppa tea after! \nBring\nEnclosed shoes\, gloves\, water bottle\, hat\, sunscreen\, insect repellent. \nHave a look at this video which outlines the original condition of the site\, the goals of the project and the works undertaken was produced in 2016.

SUMMARY:Water Quality
DESCRIPTION:Water Quality Testing\n\n\n\nLearn how to assess the health of our waterways through water quality sampling!\n \n \nSeize the opportunity to use our state of the art water quality probe to record vital data regarding our local water composition. Water pH\, oxygen levels\, temperature and other parameters can have a huge impact on the quality of our waterways and on the creatures that depend on them for survival. The Water Quality program collects monthly readings at select locations in order to assess the changing quality of our waterways throughout the year. We also rely on our volunteers to record observational details that could have an effect on the water quality reading such as current and recent weather conditions\, visible rubbish and pollution\, weeds\, site usage or disturbance\, and wildlife sightings.\n \n \nThe data collected is shared with local councils and highlights those areas where action needs to be taken! If you are passionate about the environment and keen to contribute to its preservation\, we encourage you to come along and meet like-minded people while learning new skills and collecting vital data!\n \n \nCoordinated by The Gold Coast Catchment Association and supported by the City of Gold Coast – Catchment Management Unit\, the Water Quality Monitoring program is a collaborative effort between Gecko\, Coomera River Catchment Group\, Nerang River Keepers\, Austinville Landcare & Somerset College\n \n \nWe are heading out to our Southern sites with the Gecko crew! Meeting time is at 09:00 AM at the Gecko House in Currumbin. Please be aware that samples are not necessarily taken at the meeting place and you may be required to drive to nearby locations.\n \n \nWhat to bring\n \nGum boots/water shoes. No one will be permitted to enter the water without shoes due to safety concerns.\n \nSun protection: Natural non-polluting sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, long sleeves\n \nTowel\n \nLots of drinking water\n \nGlasses/contact lenses\n \nPen/pencil\n \n \nPlease make sure to register to get all the updates!\n \n \nWebsite: www.goldcoastcatchments.org/citizenscience\n \nEmail: info@watergum.org
