SUMMARY:Nature Play QLD Passport - Gold Coast
DESCRIPTION:The Nature Play QLD Gold Coast Passport is a fun and interactive way for children to explore the Gold Coast’s natural environment. Using their passport booklet\, children are given the opportunity to venture across the Gold Coast on 11 missions ranging from Gainsborough Environment Reserve in Pimpama to Bochow Park in Numinbah Valley and Tugun Hill Conservation Area in Tugun. Missions have been designed to be fun\, while being educational and developing children’s creative abilities. It also takes into consideration access to family-friendly facilities. \nThe Gold Coast Nature Play Passport is a free program\, supported by a range of free and/or low cost activities for children to participate in at Passport sites. Gold Coast Nature Passport is an opportunity to increase the time children spend in unstructured play outdoors. It promotes health benefits\, including cognitive\, social and emotional development\, and it builds resilience and creativity. Programs such as Nature Play provide a crucial role in developing environmental awareness and stewardship in later life. \nThe special edition Gold Coast passport has been developed and funded by the City of Gold Coast (City)\, in partnership with Nature Play Queensland.

SUMMARY:PlatypusWatch
DESCRIPTION:PlatypusWatch needs your help to learn more about where platypus live and where they are disappearing. PlatypusWatch is a community-based program and involves members of the community undertaking platypus surveys\, promoting and recording platypus sightings and assessing platypus habitats. This information is used to identify what education and conservation actions are needed to help protect this mammal. \nThe platypus is an amazing semi-aquatic mammal that is endemic to Eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is primarily nocturnal\, living in creeks and rivers from cold highlands areas to tropical rainforests. Unfortunately platypus numbers appear to be declining due to habitat disruption\, water extraction\, pollution of waterways and illegal capture. \nJoin us on our Surveys in March and April 2019 where we hopefully see some youngsters explore our waterways. \nMake sure to email us on gcplatypus@gmail.com to register and get all the information for our surveys as well as the compulsory induction!
