Creating a birdlife sanctuary
April 9, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Healthy Waterways’ Connect to Your Creek Week returns for a third year in 2016 and will be held from Saturday 9 April to Sunday 17 April 2016.
Coomera River Catchment Group will be creating a birdlife sanctuary at Waterhen Lake in Oxenford to encourage the local community to connect to the Coomera River on Saturday 9th April.
Coomera River Catchment Group coordinator Steven Gill said, “We are most fortunate to enjoy the Coomera River and its rich environment with boating precincts, Damian Leeding Park, Sea Eagle Lagoon, Waterhen Lake and the list goes on”.
However, if you look closely it has been his local green army working behind the scenes with the City of Gold Coast and Wetland Care Australia that has improved the health of the Coomera River.
“We have been planting native plants along the Coomera River to improve water quality, reduce erosion and enhance biodiversity. For the last three years we have concentrated efforts at Waterhen Lake to create birdlife habitat and the upcoming community planting day is a great opportunity to invite local residents to be part of magnifying the effects for everyone.”
This event is free and open to everyone and is proudly supported by the City of Gold Coast with Coomera River Catchment Group for Healthy Waterways Connect to your creek week. Please wear enclosed shoes, a hat and bring a water bottle.
