Ocean Connect is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim of increasing awareness of coastal and marine issues on the Gold Coast through community involvement, education and citizen science.
Ocean Connect aim to be a catalyst for positive change for our coastal an marine environment on the Gold Coast.
Their core activities focus on the Gold Coast’s marine and coastal environment. These activities require problem-solvers, who bring different perspectives and are willing to be open minded. Ocean Connect emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. They wish to promote local participation in enhancing awareness of our local coastal and marine biodiversity through educational programs and citizen science.
Ocean Connect offer whole of community programs, which includes data collection that will contribute to the management of environments such as rocky shores, dunes, mangroves, sea grass and reefs. They are a non-advocacy group, open to anyone to participate in our programs. They do not engage in campaigning activities.
Their team is led by award-winning marine scientists and environmental education specialists who lead or facilitate all our programs, on a volunteering basis. They reach over 7,000 community members each year and have a large volunteer base.
